Specialist Notes
The counterfeit replicates the Starita edition with extreme adherence, so much so that it is not so infrequently discovered in place of the original, and retained as such, in important public and private collections. It was first Moroncini, in the fundamental edition of the Canti edited by him in 1927, to identify the existence of a counterfeit of the Starita. Lo same Moroncini in fact provides a list of variants that identify ican the false (we will call star.or the original Starita; star.c the forgery): star.or has 177 pages; star.c has 176 star.or has the Errata; star.c omits it; we add that the removal of the Errata does not correspond to an effective correction of the erroneous places indicated therein Index last line: star.or « xxii»; star.c «xixi» p. 170, v. 4: star.or «The dubious age »; star.c «Lad iubbeta » p. 176: star.or starts with «repeat»; star.c with « who; I complain » p. 176, penultimate line: star.or «from the tremendous»; star.c «dal tremento » As can be seen, the errors identified by Moroncini are mostly concentrated in the initial and final papers.
