Non-portable medal, minted in 1941 to celebrate the figure of Italo Balbo, one year after his death, which occurred on 28 June 1940 in a plane crash in Libya caused by friendly fire from Italian anti-aircraft guns.
On the obverse, bust of Italo Balbo with his face turned to the right.
On the reverse, a male figure running left on a winged horse, holding a standard in his hand; in the foreground a feathered wing and a thunderbolt; at the bottom left, a globe.
A fine work by master sculptor Publio Morbiducci , the medal bears the signature MORBIDUCCI under the neck of Balbo's bust. In addition, we find the embossed inscriptions QVADRIVMVIRO DELLA RIVOLVZIONE / MARESCIALLO DELL'ARIA /On the reverse, a male figure running left on a winged horse, holding a standard in his hand; in the foreground a feathered wing and a thunderbolt; at the bottom left, a globe.

Bronze medal, in excellent condition, measures approximately 71mm in diameter, for a weight of approximately 193g
Italo Balbo, a fascist leader of the March on Rome and Minister of Air Force in Mussolini's government from 1929, as well as Governor of Libya from 1934 until his death. His aviation exploits are famous, such as the Decennial Air Cruise in 1933, in command of a squadron of Savoia Marchetti SM55xs, flying from Italy to New York and back.
