Fantastic Four #81 - 9.3 EGC - December 1968
Enter – the Exquisite Elemental! — script by Stan Lee, pencils by Jack Kirby, inks by Joe Sinnott. Cover by Jack Kirby and Joe Sinnott.
After the magnificent events of Fantastic Four Annual #6, the Fantastic Four need a replacement for the Invisible Woman as she adjusts to life as a new mother. Crystal is thrilled to join, but Reed Richards isn't convinced the young elemental is ready. However, when the Wingless Sorcerer boldly attacks, Crystal fights alongside Reed, Ben, and Johnny! The Sorcerer's new miraculous gauntlets repel Mr. Fantastic, the Thing, and the Torch, but not the young girl who controls water, wind, earth, and fire. What a spectacular debut for Crystal! Note: The Sorcerer will return in Fantastic Four #94. Crystal dons the blue Fantastic Four uniform for the first time.
Fantastic Four #82 - 9.0 EGC - January 1969
The Mark of the Madman! Part 1 of 2 — script by Stan Lee, pencils by Jack Kirby, inks by Joe Sinnott. Cover by Jack Kirby and Joe Sinnott.
Crystal is thrilled to join the Fantastic Four! However, before she can officially do so, the royal family of Attilan must give their consent. When Lockjaw teleports to the Baxter Building, the formidable new foursome prepares to leap to the Hidden Earth. Suddenly, a swarm of Alpha Primitives emerges from behind Lockjaw, grabs Crystal, and stuns Reed, Ben, and Johnny. A shocking event! Why did Lockjaw betray his master? The answer lies in the Great Refuge… and that's where Thing, Human Torch, and Mr. Fantastic will next head. Note: Maximus previously appeared in Incredible Hulk Annual #1.
Fantastic Four #83 - 8.5 EGC - February 1969
Shall Man Survive? Part 2 of 2 — script by Stan Lee, pencils by Jack Kirby, inks by Joe Sinnott. Cover by Jack Kirby and Joe Sinnott.
Mad Maximus has conquered Attilan! His next target is the entire planet. With the Fantastic Four and the Inhumans as prisoners, Black Bolt's demented brother is poised to dominate the world with his powerful hypno-weapon. But the Inhumans still have one card left to play: Black Bolt's powerful voice! His thunderous scream could free the royal family or destroy the entire city. Meanwhile, in a nearby room, the Fantastic Four work feverishly to escape their captivity. If both superteams can break free, they have a chance to stop Maximus's mad plan for conquest.
Cameo appearances by the Invisible Girl and baby Franklin. Inhuman lineup: Black Bolt, Gorgon, Karnak, Medusa, and Triton. Note: Second appearance of Franklin Richards. Although the Invisible Girl appears on the cover, she is not present in Attilan during the battle. Maximus returns in Incredible Hulk #119. The Inhumans next appear in Silver Surfer (Series 1) #18. Includes full-page ads for Avengers #60 and Amazing Spider-Man #69.
