Amsterdam, Henricum & Viduam Theodori Boom, 1683. In 4°. Title page in red and black with woodcut device, with 8 copperplates, some of which are folded, numerous illustrations in the text, a gap in the lower margin of the title page, contemporary parchment binding, handwritten title on the spine, small gap on the spine, minor defects. Ownership stamp on the title page.
Specialist Notes
Gisbert Cuper (1644–1716) was a Dutch antiquarian, philologist, and politician, active as a professor of history and rhetoric and later mayor of Deventer and delegate to the States General of the Republic of the United Provinces. A renowned European scholar, he maintained a vast network of correspondence with contemporary scholars and distinguished himself for his studies of antiquity, numismatics, and classical philology.
