Papal badge " Paulus PP VI " of membership in the pontifical corps Palatine Guard of Honour of His Holiness .

In silver metal (silver?) with cobalt blue enamel, pontificate of Pope Paul VI (Giovanni Battista Montini, 1963–1978)

The body of the badge has the shape of an oval heraldic shield surmounted by the papal tiara (tiara) in gilded metal enamelled in white, with the traditional crossed keys of St. Peter on the sides, symbol of authority and jurisdiction.

papal. At the center, the oval medallion in brilliant cobalt blue enamel bears the inscription "PAULUS PP VI," the Latin form of the pontiff's official name (Paulus Papa VI). The back features a foot attachment.

With original case featuring the papal coat of arms in gold leaf, marked Tanfani e Bertarelli - Rome on the inside. The badge is in excellent condition, the case is in good condition with signs of use.

The Palatine Guard of Honour, established in 1850 by Pope Pius IX and dissolved in 1970 by Paul VI himself as part of the reform of the armed Vatican corps following the Second Vatican Council, was a voluntary military corps of lay people.

Romans who provided guard service and honorary escort to the Pope in all solemn ceremonies.
