Gilded bronze trophy for the 1906 COPPA D'ORO competition (full name: ITALIAN RESISTANCE CIRCUIT FOR THE COPPA D'ORO )

Established in 1906 by the Automobile Club of Milan , the competition covered a 4,000-kilometer route between Milan and Naples, designed to test the endurance of cars. It was called the Coppa d'Oro, but was also known as the Italian Resistance Circuit. The race started on May 14th and ended on the 24th of the same month. The winner was Vincenzo Lancia in a Fiat 24 HP.

The trophy is a splendid representation in the round, divided into three sections: the base on a square platform continues with a half circular column, with a final capital surrounded by festoons of oak and laurel leaves; the second section shows two men intent on driving an imaginary car, with a third figure standing upright and raising to the sky a circular laurel wreath, a symbol of victory, which thus acts as the base for the two-handled cup/mug (third section) which can be separated from the trophy.

On the base we find the inscription " TO ENRICO MINETTI THE SINGER OF THE RACE " engraved; on the column the engraving " Facsimile of the Golden Cup ", the logo of the RACI (Royal Italian Automobile Club) MILAN section; on the other side of the column is the crossed shield with a turreted crown symbol of the city of Milan and the inscription " LANCIA-FIAT 1906 " and around the column under the capital we find heraldic shields evidently of the various cities involved in the car race. Finally, along the edge of the cup/cup the embossed inscription AUTOMOBILE CLUB MILANO

The cup measures approximately 437mm in total height, the base measures 170x165mm, the cup/mug has a diameter of 153mm and an extension at the handles of 220mm, for a depth of 75mm
In excellent condition, magnificent gilding.

This example of the Coppa d'Oro was evidently donated to the race's creator, Enrico Minetti , as indicated by the engraving on the base. The trophy also comes with the original hardcover booklet from the time, with the title "CIRCUITO ITALIANO DI RESISTENZA PER LA COPPA D'ORO - REGOLAMENTO" printed in gold-plated characters, and an image of the trophy. The 24-page, 131x135mm format contains the entire competition regulations, with splendid illustrations of other trophies associated with the same competition. Printed by TORRIANI & C. Milan
All in excellent condition, a very rare automotive memorabilia, original trophy and booklet, not to be missed

Enrico Minetti was a pioneering figure in the European automotive world, considered the first dealer to create a structured car sales network on the continent. In 1911, he left Pirelli and founded the Automobile Commercial Agency, managing nine branches throughout Italy by the late 1920s, serving luxury automobile customers. Before the Wall Street Crash of 1929, he opened a dealership in New York, using Manhattan's Hotel Commodore as the headquarters for his American operations, hosting exclusive exhibitions of "extra series" vehicles—luxury cars with custom bodywork designed for an elite clientele. Minetti thus helped introduce high-end Italian models, including Lancias, to American collectors and enthusiasts.
