Specialist Notes

"He owed a lot to Alberto Savinio. But, if I tell the truth, in Savinio the thought is sometimes drawn with difficulty: I am amused in front of many of Savinio's paintings, but I don't think! . "& nbsp; This is the opinion of Federico Zeri, who was a close friend of the two, Fabrizio was a pupil but also a close companion of Savinio, "Stendhalian friend" as Sciascia defines him in the dedication here. This brief but intense correspondence attests to the deep esteem and mutual admiration between the two artists, but above all between the two men. In the first place reference is made to a preface to the lithographs, which Savinio offers to do for his friend without compensation, of course: "I beg you not to jab my heart anymore, talking about payments." Genit men of other times, who even when they talk about work do it with the grace and elegance of a gentleman. As when in February 1940 Savinio agreed to collaborate with Domus, at the pressure and request of Giò Ponti, as can be read in the beautiful letter of February 29th. "I would prefer a continuous collaboration, because I want to reduce the number of newspapers I collaborate with, choosing the best ones and limiting myself to these." And Domus was certainly among the best. He leaves the task of defining the terms of the commercial offer to Ponti, confident that it will be adequate. A correspondence to be studied in order to obtain useful information on that rich cultural milieu which in those years, between Rome and Milan, made our country great. & Nbsp; & nbsp; & nbsp;
