The model
The XJ is a luxury sedan produced by Jaguar. Various series have been made over the years; the Series I was produced from 1968 to 1973. Jaguar, taking up the challenge of emerging competitors in the luxury sector, had to design from scratch a car capable of replacing obsolete models. Thus was born the project called XJ4, as an acronym for eXperimental Jaguar. The task was difficult, it was necessary to maintain the elegance and prestige of the brand but to introduce design innovations such as to achieve a turning point. After debuting at the 1968 Paris Motor Show, it was unveiled at the London Motor Show that same year. The XJ was inspired by the previous 420 but with a sleeker and lighter line. The launch of the new model was supported by a great advertising campaign which in Great Britain witnessed Sir William Lyons himself, who called the XJ "the most beautiful and refined sedan Jaguar had ever built". The success, over the years, was great and lasting. The XJ Series I was the last car designed under the direction of founder Sir William Lyons. The bodywork characterized by taut lines immediately pleased. It featured a brand new bonnet with strong ribs and a new rectangular, low grille. The more modern and rational interiors had reduced the traditional opulence. Technically, the XJ was an evolution of the previous 420 G with rear-wheel drive, independent wheel suspension with front and rear wishbones, rack-and-pinion steering and four disc brakes. Passive safety to protect the occupants is also very accurate. Two engines were available at the time of the debut, both 6-cylinder in-line with twin-shaft distribution. At the bottom the 2.8 liters. At the top of the range was the 4,235 cc XK Series capable of delivering 245 hp (SAE). Later, a 5.3-liter V12 was also added. The XJ6 4.2 also offered power steering as standard and could be chosen with 4-speed manual gearbox plus overdrive or 3-speed automatic. The Jaguar XJ6 Series I in the 4.2 liter version was produced in 58,972 SWB and 584 LWB units.
The car
The Jaguar XJ6, with chassis no. 1L54377DN is an example with a matching numbers 4.2 liter engine. The car is completely original and preserved, in excellent condition and in need of some extra work to become perfect. It is registered with its original Turin black plates. It comes with a "page" booklet of the time and an original use and maintenance booklet. It is equipped with a manual gearbox with overdrive. Paint job is silver, while the interiors are in traditional Connolly leather in an exceptional and elegant Navy blue tone and are perfect. Mechanically perfect, it has just been serviced and overhauled. Many works have been recently carried out and documented, such as: clutch pump, radiator fluid recovery tank, points and condenser, electric petrol pumps, brake booster, etc. The tires are 80%. It features a Blaupunkt car radio with FM preselection, of the time, and static belts.
